| Paul Jacoulet,The Replacement, Miles (No. 142) The model, a Chinese girl who was living in Seoul, recently lost a baby. Her pet rabbit was a poor substitute, but it gave Jacoulet and idea for an image that has grown steadily more popular since his death. The young lady also was the inspiration for Les Jades (No. 63),the original painting which was done during the same period as Le Replacement.There is no evidence that Jacoulet completed any paintings in the last five years of his life, so engrossed was he in preparing an ambitious new series of wood block prints.
